It was Easter Sunday, and clearly the kids take the thematic idea of “rising” very seriously, because they rose from their beds at the crack of dawn, excited to go find a bunch of hard boiled eggs they will have no interest in eating.
Of course, also candy.
And it was a really fun Easter egg hunt and the kids had a great time searching around. Every time he would find one, Henry would call out, “AN EGG!”

There were some mighty clever hiding spots and we actually found all the eggs that were hidden. It generally feels like tradition for there to be at least one real egg to be unaccounted for. We did pretty good this time.
The kids also got some cool gifts from the Easter Bunny. Henry got a big hopping ball, and Amelia got a set of science experiments. She went right for the volcano experiment. I think she may be a volcanologist someday.

Having been an early morning, we grown ups were all tired, so we took turns with the kids so we could take nap shifts. I went on first watch and took the kids to the park. It was a super nice day and we did our usual thing there.
One nice addition was that there was a family doing batting practice on a nearby baseball diamond, and the kids and I watched them hit some dingers. The kids enjoyed it and it made me really want to go to a ballgame. Man, I can’t wait for those days to come back.
After that, we went home and when I had my nap shift, I zonked out hard for a couple hours. We all hung out in the backyard for a while, and Auntie Kallin shot some hoops with the kids.

And we set about making dinner. We didn’t go for the typical Easter fare, but made h0memade pasta instead. Amelia and Erin did a fantastic job making the noodles. And Henry joined in, too.

We had a good meal and enjoyed a nice, relaxing evening. It was a good day. While I’m not a terribly religious guy, I do respect the theme of rebirth and renewal that is wrapped up in Easter. Now that we have vaccinations scheduled and there are many positive winds picking up, I hope this is the start of a year of upward progress and renewal for all of us. After what all of us have been through in the last year or so, heaven knows we’ve earned it.
