We had a fairly low key Sunday planned, but of course the kids were asking what fun thing we were going to do. In a bit of serendipity, I heard from some friends in our bubble, asking if our kids would want to play with their daughter for a little while at a park. So we were off to the tunnel park, and kids got to romp around together for a while.

Thing went well for about an hour, and then Henry was clearly getting tired and starting to get a little frayed. Lately we’ve been aware that with his increased school schedule, along with all the usual therapy, he is feeling a little over scheduled sometimes so we are trying to be sensitive to giving him as much downtime as possible. So we wrapped things up and headed back home, where he did some relaxing and some playing with Amelia.

I did a little writing and Erin continued on her recovery path. We grown ups ordered in a little sushi, and Amelia asked me for a lesson on chopsticks use. She did pretty well on her first practice run.

After dinner it was out to the backyard for our usual evening round of playing superheroes.

I’ve noticed more and more lately that Henry is getting really creative with coming up with his own imaginary characters and scenarios. For a long time, he would mainly mimic things he’d seen on TV in his imagination play, but it’s been really cool to see that expand into his own ideas. In fact, he’s gotten so into it that this time out, Amelia had to push back a little to make sure that some of her make believe scenarios got in there, too. Henry does have a way of pushing his vision, that’s for sure.

But we all had fun, and finally packed it in as the sun was going down and it was getting pretty cold outside. With a little time left before bed, Amelia and I got in a little game of chess.

NOTE: I did not win.
