Entertaining ourselves in quarantine can sometimes be challenging. Thank goodness we have two creative and ofttimes wacky kids top keep the show rolling.
At dinner time, Amelia decided to treat us to some magic. She began with some drawing magic, where she changed a circle into a few bananas using the amazing powers of dry erase markers.
From drawn bananas, she moved up to the real thing, telling us she would change one banana into many!

This seems like a very handy power to have, particularly in our house where bananas are a hot commodity and we’re trying to limit visits to the grocery store. So she waved her magic wand (the aforementioned dry erase marker) and presto!
Sometimes the best tricks are the simplest ones, really. When you think about it, what she said she’d do is turn one banana into many, and she did in fact accomplish that. She never promised a puff of smoke, a bolt of lighting or mystic cosmic powers or anything.
Other than that, just another day in the muddle. Grandma and Pop Pop Liddell dropped off some toys for the kids, including a Frozen LEGO castle for Amelia. She asked me to help, which I attempted to do for a while. Admittedly, I had just gotten up from a nap (I take those now…one positive thing about quarantine) and was pretty groggy I had some trouble processing the trillion or so super tiny pieces in the box.
WARNING: I’m about to lapse into an official middle aged man, “When I was a kid…” thing. Feel free to tune out. I sure would if I were you.
When I was a kid, I remember LEGOs being very different. I loved playing with LEGOs, and the sets I had were just standard variations on squares and rectangles with some wedge-shaped ones thrown in. My siblings and cousins and I used to make cool spaceships from our imaginations and from whatever oddball pieces we could scrounge.
Now I feel like LEGOs are designed for model enthusiasts and the kind of people that build ships in bottles. All these intricate, tiny pieces! So much complexity! Instructions! Why can’t LEGOs be like they were in the old days? And why do these kids have to play their music so loud?!?!
RANT ENDS
Sorry about that. I just can’t help it sometimes. The long and short of it is that I suck at LEGOs and should probably stick with Duplos. I was not much help in this project.
But, fortunately Amelia is pretty darn good with LEGOs and made some excellent progress.

So that was Saturday. Anyone want a banana? I have a good source.
