Monday morning, I woke up to sunrise in the mountains. The air was crisp and fresh, and the world looked bright and wonderful. All Monday mornings should start that way.

Of course, on the flip side, I had slept not all that soundly on a thin air mattress in a sleeping bag in a tent the night before, and saw that sunrise while trekking to a fairly primitive restroom, so the whole “house” thing is also quite nice. But boy is it ever nice visiting those mountains.

We had a nice breakfast outside. Bacon over the fire, cowboy coffee, hash browns and eggs. Erin and I both agree that whether it’s picnics or camping, even the simplest of meals tastes way better in that setting.

While we were cooking, Amelia took my phone and took a few photos, including one of our campsite chipmunk, who she named “Chiply.” I like that name. Sounds kind of like a chipmunk butler.

After breakfast, we loaded up the car and took a little walk before we left, taking in the   surrounding scenery.

It was sad to leave, but we had a nice drive down the mountain and had a stop for an amazing slice of cherry pie along the way.

We got back around lunchtime, so it was a short, but perfect little getaway. I was able to sneak in a pretty productive afternoon, getting some things ready for upcoming meetings.

Yes, I may have gotten a little bit of a late start taking the morning off, but I probably had as productive a Monday as I’d had a in a while. Amazing what waking up with some fresh mountain air can do. Even if the old back is a little creaky from spending a night on the ground. It was a fun little getaway, but I am also happy to get back to some mattress supported sleep.
