Comedy is a strong force in our family, and our kids both really love to laugh and to make others laugh. Henry is heavy on the slapstick and out-there random humor,. Amelia, a little older, loves a good joke.
We had dinner at Grandma and Pop Pop’s on Wednesday evening, and they had ordered a new animal joke book for Amelia. She LOVED it, and was telling us jokes the rest of the evening. She was really getting a kick out of it, and I love watching her timing and comic delivery develop.

So of course I need to share a few of these zingers. Ready? Here we go.
- Why don’t border collies sleep well? They spend all night counting sheep!
- What do bats do to exercise? Aero-BAT-ics!
- What did the buffalo say to his boy when he left for school? “Bi-SON!”
- What do you get when you cross a bulldog with a calculator? A pet you can count on!
- Why did the shark cross the ocean? To get to the other TIDE!
That is some good stuff. I remember my love of joke books when I was a kid, and it brought me no small amount of joy to see Amelia giggling her way through these, and even repeating them to get the delivery just right..
That’s all I’ve got for tonight. The day on the whole was just fine, but how do you top that? OK, maybe one more:
- What did the beaver say to the tree? It’s been nice GNAWING you!
