Thursday was pretty busy, if not entirely eventful. We all rushed around doing our respective things throughout the day. In the late afternoon, Erin had to go off and teach a puppy class, so I incentivized the kids to help finish the cleaning the house and to willingly submit to early baths by promising them I’d play some games with them afterward.

I am shocked to write that this ploy actually worked. Ever pitch something so half heartedly because you didn’t think anyone would bite, and then discover that they will? They probably saw me a do a double take when they said, “sure!” In an age where everything feels a little harder than it ought to be all the time, I will happily take that surprise bit of n0n-resistance.

Anyway, cleaning and baths accomplished, it was on to board games. Amelia brought out a stack of games and we started to make our way through. First up was My Little Pony Candyland. We all picked our ponies and got ready to rumble.

Henry made it about 3/4 through the game before deciding to retire to watching Spongebob. Amelia and I kept going and and she, of course, won handily.

Next up on the game board was Guess Who. We played three rounds. I squeaked out a win in the first round, Amelia eked out a win in the second, and she completely mopped the floor with me on the third. Like, she seriously guessed correctly after 2 questions.

Thankfully, Erin came home and spared me further defeat. We had some dinner, watched some cartoons together and had a pretty low-key evening.

So yeah, this.is another pretty brief post, but admittedly I’ve been getting to these pretty late this week and hey, there are some days that playing a few board games with your kids is the headline.

I have to say, I still have strong and happy memories of the days that my parents played board games with me and my siblings. There is something about the whole thing that you can just feel is building positive memories.

The fact that my kids can legitimately beat me, without my sandbagging it any way, probably helps on that font. One of these days I’ll break out the 1980s era original Trivial Pursuit, and maybe then I can finally win a game or two. Maybe.
