‘Twas the day before Halloween, and all through the house, all our creatures were stirring. We are big Halloween fans in this family, and as always, the kids are super excited. Amelia got to wear her costume to virtual school on Friday, and even changed her screen name to “Ariel.”
Henry talked all day about our Halloween party. We did decide against trick or treating this year to be on the safe side, so Erin’s parents were good enough to offer to host us at their place with lots of fun Halloween activities. More on that in tomorrow’s blog.
But costumes were at the ready. Amelia had her Little Mermaid/Princess Ariel dress, Henry wanted to reprise his great costume from last year…Captain Underpants! The kid can rock a bodysuit. And I pulled my costume out, too.

I took some time in the afternoon to run some errands and finally go shopping for new glasses. I’ve been putting it off for a while for a couple of reasons. First, because I have been avoiding the confrontation of the fact that I finally need progressives. After about a year of squinting and denial, I am finally giving in.
Secondly, I love glasses and feel a ton of pressure to make the right decision. I want to do something different this time, but it’s always a trick of finding the right balance. But the fact is I’ve never truly loved the ones I’ve been wearing for the past three years, so I might as well roll the dice.
So I’ve been slow walking it, but finally decided I need to pull the trigger because frankly my lenses are so scratched up I can barely see at this point. Of course, it’s tough trying on frames and getting an idea of how you’ll look when you have to be wearing a mask, but I did the best I could and I think I have a pretty good idea of a pair I’m going to go for. I’m giving myself the weekend to do a final mulling.
Anyway, after all that, we ordered in some pizza and watched Halloween movies. We thought we’d try out this Curious George Halloween movie, and went through a comedy of errors trying to stream it that I think well encapsulates the time we live in.
It wasn’t on any of our streaming services, but Erin saw it was on Peacock, which she has been using. She logged in, and we discovered it was only available on the pay version. OK, you can sign up for a free trial, so she tried that. We got an error saying it wouldn’t process.
So I went through all the steps to set up a login to get the trial. Error. Wouldn’t process.
OK, so we searched on. It was also on Hulu, which we also don’t have. So I went to get a free trial of that. Because I did a trial like a year ago, I was already in the system and had to jump through a bunch of hoops, but did finally get set up and we got to watch the movie. It only took 20 minutes and a ton of failed login/setup attempts. Gotta’ love the world of a zillion streaming services.
But hey, at least the movie was drab and mediocre. Oh well. We moved on from that to yet another viewing of the Great Pumpkin, which never gets old. Amelia LOVES acting out Snoopy’s scenes and is super proud of how well she does it.

It is a sight to see, I will admit. Our kids have performance in their blood.
