Saturday was a busy day for Erin, who had several dog training clients lined up and was out doing that for a good chunk of the day. While she was helping others with their pups, I looked after ours and got caught up on some work around the house.

The kids for the most part did their own thing while I cleaned up, did some laundry and vacuumed, but they did eventually start to chime in with the “we’re bored” and “what are we doing today” chorus.

For starters, I did have some Christmas wrapping to do and let the kids help with a few of their mom’s presents. Amelia did a fantastic job cutting the paper and taping, while Henry did a great job running around, singing, and dancing on scraps of wrapping paper.

The kids both asked several times if I could play with them, and at some point I ran out of excuses and relented. They were in the middle of a pretty epic lightsaber battle at the time.

Amelia asked if I could join in. How could I resist? There is still enough of a kid in me that makes it awfully hard to say no to Jedi adventures. Of course, we only had two lightsabers in the house, so I had to improvise. Having just wrapped the wrapping, the answer was obvious.

Soon we were all engaged in a battle for the future of the galaxy. Amelia was Jedi Princess Amelia, Henry was “Luke Henry,” and I was Darth Daddy.

I told them both I was their father. It wasn’t really a surprise.

Anyway, we had a fun time playing, first Jedi, and later superheroes. After Erin got home, we all took it easy for a while and then decided to order pizza from a New York style place nearby that we hadn’t tried yet. It was super yummy.

I loved the pizza, but I will admit that I thought the words, “there might be too much garlic on this” would ever escape my lips, becasue boy I love garlic. But we did get garlic on this pizza and it was right on the edge. If you get a whiff of garlic reading this, it’s probably because it’s still with me.

I also watched the Packers/Panthers game on my iPad while the kids had their pizza. Amelia asked me how the Packers were doing. This was in the first half when they were actually playing well, so I said they were playing well. Amelia said, “Oh good. The Packers are my favorite…is it baseball? Team?”

With a smile, I told her it was football, but in the end what’s the difference. Good not to be too obsessive about these things.

And just before bed, while flossing and brushing, we had some big news. Amelia lost one front tooth a few weeks ago, and the other has quite literally been hanging on by a thread for DAYS. She didn’t want us to pull it, but I was frankly shocked that gravity alone hadn’t done the job yet. But at last, the tooth gave up and fell out!

Indeed, we are now living the “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth” scenario. She was super excited, and now she gets a visit from the Tooth Fairy AND Santa Claus all in the same week.
