It was Sunday morning, and we have been making an effort to get out for some kind of walk or hike each weekend. The reasons for this are many. First of all, it’s great exercise and activity, secondly it’s good time together as a family in the fresh air and sunshine, and third, we live in a beautiful state and have been thinking we should be taking more advantage of it.
So Erin found a trail near Boulder, about a 35 minute drive for us. The trail was just over a mile and seemed like a nice, easy breezy, family friendly hike for all of us to do together. It also seemed like it would have some nice views, so we were all in.
We passed some pretty packed trailheads early on and wondered whether the trail would be packed. It was a pretty drive, up and up the foothills, until we finally got to where we were going.

It was a little gloomy and windy, but we bundled up and started off. I have to say, we weren’t prepared for just how amazing the views were. We were blown away. On one side, a long view down the valley where we could even see the skyline of Denver, some 30 or so miles away.

And on the other side, we saw the snow capped peaks of the Rockies. It was breathtaking and beautiful.

We had an amazing hike. Lots of terrain to make it just vigorous enough without being impossible for the kids and Asta. Henry also asked to stop a couple of times to take a picture. Not of the scenery, but of us.

It was a great start to a Sunday. We all felt great getting some mountain air and a taking in the sights. From there we went back home to do some things around the house. Some friends we sometimes see came over with their two kids, and we had a little housecleaning to do, including finally saying goodbye to the Christmas tree. It gave us a good run, and made the least mess of any tree we’ve ever had, which will forever endear it to me.
We put out a taco bar and had fun catching up with our friends. As usual, the weekend went way too fast, but at least we got a lot of good stuff in.
