Saturdays are usually pretty busy, and this one was even a bit more so. Erin had some lessons to give, and I took the kids to do our usual grocery shopping, but this time we were also thinking and planning ahead for a little road trip to the mountains we’re taking later this weekend.
Erin turns 40 next week, and while once upon a time we hoped to spend her birthday in Europe, clearly COVID had other plans and we are going to have to do that another time instead. But for her birthday, we are going to take a little trip up to stay in a little cabin near some hot springs, take in the sights and do a little hiking and maybe shoe shoeing.
We’re all super excited, and made our lists of things we need to get and bring and started putting it all together. It’s a little funny packing for a trip where you need both a bathing suit and snow pants, but here we are.
Anyway, we got to Trader Joe’s and there was quite a mega line. Luckily, the kids entertained themselves by literally running back and forth between the building and the line. It’s amazing what kids can find fun sometimes, but hey, good on them.

Back home, we offloaded the groceries and then got to packing suitcases and assembling the food and other odds and ends we’ll have to bring. In what will truly be a shock to the kids, the place we are going has NO TV and NO WIFI. There is apparently some kind of WiFi at the main building, but it sounds like we might indeed be off the grid for a few days, which I think is pretty awesome.
So just in case, I tested my computer’s DVD drive and I had the kids pick out a stack of DVDs from our bins in the basement.
I was going to cook some dinner, but being that things were a little busy, we opted instead to order in some Chipotle. The delivery seemed to take forever, and when it finally arrived, I was rather perplexed to discover an enormous 13-inch long sub sandwich and (shudder) a PEPSI. Clearly not our order.

My guess is that our delivery driver had us mixed up with Scooby and Shaggy.

Oh well, so it goes. We ordered again and this time I just picked it up, and fortunately everything was right this time. We finished packing, gave the kids baths and tried to call it early night. The kids were bursting with anticipation, so they were less keen on the early bed time, but that’s kids for you. We’re all looking forward to a new adventure in the coming days.
