Ah, Colorado in springtime. In the same way that salty and sweet, while opposite, tend to complement each other, Colorado likes to create lovely juxtapositions between days that are warm and sunny and days that are frigid arctic hellscapes.
Quick side note…writing this on my iPad, Autocorrect just tried to change “hellscapes” to “Hell’s Apes.” Note to self: after the pandemic, work on writing a supernatural horror comedy titled “Hell’s Apes.”
Anyway, last weekend was absolutely gorgeous and we soaked up being outside as much as possible. The week started much the same, and then we got the memo that we had a crippling blizzard to look forward to this weekend.
As with all of these kinds of things, we won’t know how accurate the forecasts are until the storm gets here, but we have regularly been hearing somewhere in the neighborhood of two feet of snow. So that’s fun.
I usually go the grocery store on Saturday, but since that will be at the projected height of the storm, and since we saw local news stories showing that people were already panic buying on Wednesday, I figured I’d better get to the store on Thursday.
Fortunately there were no desperate mobs and the lines were relatively short, and I was able to get what we needed to hunker down for the weekend. After I got home, it was time to go pick up Henry from school. It was a lovely afternoon for a walk, and I couldn’t help but look around and think that this will all look like the planet Hoth in a couple of days.

Later in the afternoon, the kids had a quick Zoom with Grandma and Grandpa Schneider. It was nice catching up and, as usual, Henry insisted on reading them one of his favorite books, The Monster at the End of This Book.

After that, we made some dinner and wound down for the day. I’ve generally been having pretty productive evenings, getting some writing done, but I was beyond-beyond tired this time, so I figured I’d give myself a little break. I relaxed, watched some Ted Lasso and konked out.
And by the way, if you haven’t seen Ted Lasso, check it out. It is funny and also just overwhelmingly positive and fun. Hard not to feel good when watching it. And good feelings are something we can all go for these days.
