Thursday morning, I had some things to print out. Henry was all the way on the other end of the house, but he has a Pavlovian response to the sound of the printer and rushed over as soon as it started up.

For quite a while, Henry has been really into bringing us printouts from the printer. He loves getting the papers and bringing them to us. And to be honest, it’s a pretty handy service. Only trouble is sometimes he gets a little over-eager and is yanking the page out before it’s finished, which indeed he did here. But the printer must be getting used to him and managed to get through the print job anyway, and Henry delivered the goods.

Later I had a to host a webinar, and while Erin was also on a call, I executed an elegant bit of multitasking. While the speaker was delivering his presentation, I listened in, fielded chat questions and made the kids some lunch at the same time. God bless the modern workplace!

Henry had school in the afternoon, Amelia worked on her assignments, and Erin and I were both hard at work. I took a break to pick Henry up at school, and he’d had a great day and was all excited to talk about it. He got so into the story, he had to stop and take a break on the way home.

Later in the afternoon, we all headed out to watch Amelia’s very first piano recital. She started lessons around the beginning of the pandemic, and her first “recital” was virtual and basically consisted of sending in a video of her playing. This was in person and something new and exciting.

The school handled it really well. It was just a few students and their parents in a large space, and it was a wonderful opportunity for Amelia to perform. She was a little nervous, but got right up, played her song, and did a fantastic job.

We are extremely proud of the hard work she put in practicing, and her poise doing her first piano recital in front of others. The other kids also were great, and it was a lovely little concert for the kids to watch. Afterward, we picked up some McDonald’s for Amelia and Henry and they celebrated Amelia’s success with chicken McNuggets.

And that was about it for the day. We got the kids to bed, I wrapped up some work and did some writing and it was off to bed. Coming to the end of another week.
