Friday at last arrived! I had been thinking it was Friday pretty much every day since Tuesday, and this time it was for real, so that was cool.
Amelia was off to school, and Henry had the day off from ABA therapy. He took it pretty easy, relaxing on the couch, playing some games on his tablet. He also kept insisting on watching The Claymation Christmas Special, an old California Raisins special from the late 80s. It doesn’t even exist in streaming or digital format, so it’s an old DVD from my collection. Not sure why he suddenly had the urge to watch a Christmas special, but boy it was he ever all about it. I think he watched it four times times a row that morning.
He did have OT later in the morning and did pretty well with that, and then it was time for school. I walked with him, and as usual he insisted on tracking through the sand in a nearby volleyball court. This time I thought I’d join him.
Yes, sand is messy and annoying, but I have to say, I can see the appeal. Felt pretty good, really.
Anyway, with Henry dropped off I went back and wrapped up some work for the week. Amelia and I went to pick up Henry together, so we could head out afterward to go grocery shopping. Henry came out of school, super excited and holding an invitation to a classmate’s park birthday party next month. He was thrilled to tell us about it, and kept talking about how much fun it will be to go to his friend’s party. I briefly met Henry’s friend and her mother in the parking lot, and they were very nice.
This may sound like a small thing, but I was elated to see this. Henry has often played alongside other kids and never really formed the kind of friend bonds that his sister did, so to see him get invited to a party and be excited about it is a huge thing for us.
Walking on that up note, we came upon an ice cream truck that cleverly pulled up at the park near the school. I figured it was Friday, and sure, the kids could have an ice cream treat. They both picked out a Spongebob popsicle and we hung out for a little bit in the park so they could eat them. Good thing, too, because those popsicles had psychotic dye in them, and had they taken them in the car, the backseat would have looked like tie dye.
From there, we went to the grocery store, and ordered in some pizza. We had a really nice Zoom dinner and conversation with our dear friend, Autie Erika. Amelia chatted her up for a while…
And then we got to catch up with our friend while the kids went off and played. After that, we were all pretty tired after a long week and pretty quickly wound down and called it night. Thank god it was Friday. The real Friday.
