As the mother of a son diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Erin Schneider, founder of Mountain Summit Consulting, knows firsthand the challenges parents face after receiving their child’s disability diagnosis.
“When we received our son’s autism diagnosis, we were handed a long list of possible therapies and providers and left to figure things out for ourselves,” Erin recalls. “I spent hours on the phone, leaving voicemails, doing research and trying to chase down information to get the best help for our son. It was a very time-consuming, difficult process and there was no one to help guide us through it.”
Getting news of a diagnosis can be emotional, and parents are immediately overwhelmed with long, faceless lists of service providers, murky definitions of available therapies, and confusing insurance benefits. Sorting through all of it to find answers and get the right help seems daunting, if not impossible.
With lots of time and dedication, Erin found excellent support for her son. One year later, his progress has been amazing.
“Getting the right help has been a game changer,” Erin says. “I want other families to experience the same success we have, but kept thinking it should not be this difficult.”
Erin decided to put her experience, her network of service providers and her expertise in project management to work helping other families of children with disabilities. She launched Mountain Summit Consulting to give individualized help to parents trying to find help for their children.
Mountain Summit Consulting takes the time to hear each family’s story and understand the specific needs of their child. Equipped with that information, Erin does the research to identify the service providers that are the best fit for each unique situation. She takes into account things like parenting philosophy, insurance, availability, financial situation, and more. In the end, the family receives a short list of highly qualified options to choose from.
“Early intervention is so important, and I know from personal experience how important it is to find the right help for children with disabilities. But it can be so hard to find,” Erin says. “Parents are busy, and it is difficult to spend hours and hours on the phone researching providers when there are so many other responsibilities to juggle. My goal is to take that task off of parents’ hands, so they can instead focus their time on their children and their lives.”
