It was a very, very crisp Friday morning. Below freezing, as a point of fact. And colder weather on the way. We are on deck for a full on snowstorm on Saturday night and Sunday, so I had to get the yard ready. The front yard was full of leaves, so frosty conditions or no, I had to get out there and do some raking. I got bundled up and got to it.

For having a front yard with two pretty small trees, we do get quite a few leaves from neighboring trees piling up. I’d complain, but that’s just nature. I don’t think it’s fair (or possible) to ask anyone to keep falling leaves in their own yards in the face of the crazy winds we get out here.

That done, I got in to work and all the usual stuff. Erin ran out and got the kids decorate your own donut kits!

They might as well have just given us the cups of frosting, since that’s really just what the kids eat anyway.

Later in the afternoon was off to do the weekly grocery run at Trader Joe’s. Things were pretty busy out and about, and I could tell people were getting stocked up and ready to hunker down for the impending storm.

Even so, things went pretty smoothly, even if I did get caught in the epic slowest line imaginable at Trader Joe’s. I wondered at first what was taking so long, and eventually figured out that, no joke, the guy in front of me was paying a fairly hefty grocery bill in what must have been singles. There was a LOT of cash counting and shuffling.

But hey, legal tender is legal tender, I guess. I finally made my way through and got home. We ordered some pizza and tried to have a movie night. We really wanted to do a Halloween movie for the kids, but we’ve really struggled to find Halloween movies for their age group. For such a popular holiday, you’d think there would be more solid content for little kids, but honestly it seems like most everything is really lame and aimed at 2-year-olds, or freaky and scary and aimed at teens and pre-teens.

We tried The Adventuresof Ichabod and Mr. Toad on Disney Plus. It’s…a tad dated. Henry lost interest after about 15 minutes, and Amelia after about 20. Amelia and I decided to give Nightmare Before Christmas a whirl.

We had fun watching it, and the songs are great. Her final review was exactly the same as mine was when I first saw it, and that it still is today. “That was pretty good! Not great, but OK.”

It’ll do, it’ll do.
