I had seen the weather forecast call for some possible snow flurries overnight, and throughout the day on Wednesday. I was expecting to maybe wake up to a little rain and snow, and was frankly a little surprised to instead find about 3 inches had fallen overnight. We had slipped into a winter wonderland.

The past several years, we seem to have a solid amount of snow for every holiday other than Christmas. When Christmas rolls around, it’s usally dry as a bone, but Halloween, Thanksgiving, Groundhog’s Day and even Mother’s Day have all been snowy white.

But hey, it’s OK. It was the start of Thanksgiving break for all of us. I took most of the week off, and while I’ll admit to having done a little bit of work on Tuesday morning (let’s keep that to ourselves, shall we?), I did indeed take most of the day off. We kicked off the day by ordering some takout from a bakery in Denver that specializes in scones. Oh my god, they were out of this world. Came with the clotted cream and jam and everything. I would share a photo here, but frankly they were so amazingly good we devoured them before any photographic evidence could be obtained.

Like so many of us, this week’s plans have changed pretty radically. My sister and her family were originally going to be here, we were going to be spending a few days in the mountains and celebrating Thanskgiving together here. It still sucks that none of that worked out, but I also know that holding off was the right thing for the good of everyone. We’ll have our opportunities to do that another time. I do believe that better days are not that far ahead, but we are not there yet. Now is the time to scale back to a quiet Thanksgiving and appreciate what we do have, rather than lament what we can’t have right now.

So we generally took it pretty easy on Tuesday. The kids had some fun playing outside…

…And Erin and I worked on getting a few last bits ready in advance of Thanksgiving and also preparing house for the new puppy we are picking up on Wednesday. Since I write these a day ahead, I can tell you, SPOILER ALERT…the puppy is insanely adorable.

More on that in tomorrow’s post…
