On Friday, I went out for a rare social/professional in-person interaction. I met a colleague and longtime friend for a cup of coffee down in Denver’s Larimer Square. They’ve done a nice job setting up outdoor seating and closing off the street so restaurants on the block can have more outside diners.
It was a gorgeous springlike day, and felt just as good to be out in the sunshine and down in the city as it did to see a friend.

We had a nice visit and java, and then both of us were back off to work. I wrapped up some things for the week back at the home office and once again, Amelia joined me to do some of her schoolwork at my desk. She showed me a cool little video she had made for a class assignment and I told her I really liked the framing. And the unicorn robe.

Later in the afternoon, I picked Henry up from preschool and drove him down to his dentist’s appointment. Going way back, Henry was supposed to have had a “happy visit” to his pediatric dentist back in summer to help get home comfortable with doing things like cleaning and X-rays. that got cancelled due to COVID, and his checkup got postponed, but the day finally arrived.
Erin and I were nervous about how he would do. But he was in good spirits, so I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. He sat in dentists’ chair, they gave him some sunglasses to help with the bright lights, and he was cool as a cucumber.

He did GREAT with the cleaning, and then we went to do the X-rays. Much the surprised glee of the technician and myself, he absolutely rocked it. He went along with everything really well, and we got through the X-ray process with incredible ease. I was so proud of him. It’s another sign of how far our little guy has come.
The dentist checked everything out and he got a great review. I told him we could get pizza from his favorite pizza place afterward, and no sooner were we finished in the chair than he said, “Dad, can we get Perry’s now?”
And indeed we did. I called in the carryout, we picked it up and headed home. Amelia and Erin had been out running some errands, and we all rendezvoused back at the house, had some dinner and played some Mario Kart. After the kids were in bed, I got online with some friends for a weekly Friday night Zoom and pretty much passed out after that. Onto the weekend.
