Saturday had an early start for Erin and Islay. It was a big day for our little pup…time for her appointment to get spayed. Erin drove her to Boulder where she’d have the procedure done at the crack of dawn, and she’d spend the day there recovering.

Later in the morning, while Erin and I enjoyed a little breakfast, the kids were playing with Amelia’s play sand, which is sort of a clay type of material with little ice cream shop accessories. Henry made me a rather delicious looking cone. And Amelia whipped up quite a sundae for herself.

After that sandy treat, the kids got ready to go to Grandma and Pop Pop’s house for a few hours. I dropped them off, then headed back to pick up Erin. We had a few hours before we needed to pick up Islay, so we decided to get a little lunch. We decided to check out a place called the Denver Milk Market, which is kind of a fancy food court.

It was a beautiful day downtown, and the place was pretty cool and well operated for the pandemic. Limited occupancy and temperature checks, and instead of wandering around to all the different food stations, you just scanned a QR code from your table that gave you access to all the menus, and you order online and the food is brought to you. Pretty slick and minimal contact. We started out with a lovely cheese and meat plate.

It was nice getting out, even for an hour. After that, we walked around for a little while and then headed off to pick up our little girl. She was very groggy, but had done well and was happy to be home. She rested well for the first few hours. At one point, she wanted to go outside and just sat in the grass, so I spent some time sitting out there with her.

By evening, she was moving around more and wanting to get back to being her puppy self, so our challenge will be trying to convince an enthusiastic puppy to take it easy and rest.

The kids got home after dinner, having had a really fun afternoon with their grandparents. We decided to have a movie night, and since Amelia’s been very much into Marvel characters lately, we gave Guardians of the Galaxy a shot.

Erin and I love that movie, and we all had a fun time watching it. Amelia was laughing up a storm and seemed pretty into it, but when it was all over and we asked her if she liked it, she said, “Not really.” Never can tell, I supposed. I think parts were a little intense for her, and I get that. But hey, we tried, and at least she was honest with us.

We called it a night after the movie. Henry had zonked out on the sofa and Islay needed some rest. She is doing well so far, and we’re glad to have that whole procedure behind her.
