Saturday began as my Saturdays generally do: making a list and going out for the weekly supply run. Some weeks are more challenging than others, but I’d have to say that this week’s went very smoothly. The lines were short, and I got everything I needed pretty quickly and efficiently.
Riveting, right? The best storytelling comes from conflict, so that first paragraph fails on all levels. Let me try a little harder. Hmmmm. Oh, I know! I was looking for a particular brand of gluten free angel hair pasta. I looked and looked, but…they only had spaghetti!
Expectations dashed! Disappointment! Our meal will have to have ever so slightly thicker noodles!
Yeah, that’s not really tracking either. Well, I gave it a shot. While a lack of conflict may make for an extra lame blog post, I’ll at least say that a smooth day here and there after being locked in for a few months is a welcome change. So I’ll take it.
In other news, we had some backyard sports to enjoy. Amelia started to get into baseball last year, and recently we discovered that the foam baseball we had has gone missing. To be fair, it was pretty chewed up by Asta anyway.
So I recently ordered some new baseballs and they arrived in the afternoon. The kids were excited for the opportunity to play, and Henry got right in there too. The very first pitch I made to Amelia, she connected and knocked it over the fence. There were several other homers to come.
And Henry got into pitching, and was actually doing a pretty good job of it. This one tracked right on the money…
…and turned out to be a sinker.
This one was juuuuust a bit high and outside.
But the two connected several times and had fun taking turns pitching and hitting. Erin and I enjoyed watching. I was wishing I could get a $10 Old Style and a bag of peanuts to complete the atmosphere.
Nothing else too exciting, except that I, like much of America, found out the news about the passing of comedy legend, Fred Willard. He was such a uniquely bizarre and hilarious presence in so many movies and TV shows. His humor is a rare sort that connects with people of all ages and sensibilities.
As part of my mourning, I decided to buy A Mighty Wind and watch that last night. It is a funny and sweet movie, and really hit the spot for me. And Willard is, of course, awesome in it. So I leave you with one of my favorite bits, which also happens to predict much of the current attitude toward cruise ships. “You do NOT want to be a cruise ship when dysentery breaks out.”
